“Warm Reunion” by Allison Lee

Outside, I lie waiting.
Why can’t I open this dumb thing?

My ears have started to shout
Lips begging in a pout.

            Father Christmas howls a laugh at my back; sending my limp hair in all directions, catching onto my dry lips and my wrinkled coat.
One-two, One-two. My hand crumples together against the wood.

A small creak, a faint light.
Finally, someone has spotted me in their sight.

Stumble inside; motivated by the first breath of warm air.
Shed my coat without a care.

Exhale with relief, panic shoed away.
I decided forever I shall stay.

            As my eyes recoup, it is no mirage to deceive me.
That old acquaintance shyly peeks around the corner.
The beautiful red, the easy nature; makes me wonder how it felt.

Run, and seize my old pal.
Wrapped around me, that embracive gal.

Warm and gentle to the touch;
My blanket: irreplaceable lush.
